Schedule X (Twitter) Posts and Threads
Updated · Multi Post Social guide
You can schedule X posts and full threads from Multi Post Social: single posts up to 280 characters, threads of any length posted in order, up to four images with alt text, video and polls. This guide covers the account and API tiers X uses, how to connect, the limits the composer counts for you, how threads keep their order, and the habits that work on a fast feed.
What you can schedule on X
Text posts, posts with up to four images, one GIF or one video, polls with up to four options, quote posts of a URL, and threads all publish directly. Each image takes alt text up to 1,000 characters. Premium accounts can write longer posts; the composer reads the account type and raises the limit. Communities posts and Spaces stay in the X app.

Account requirements
Any X account can connect. What varies is the monthly posting allowance that X grants to tools, which depends on the API tier and on whether the account is Premium. Multi Post Social shows the remaining allowance for the month on the channel page, so a busy account never runs out mid-campaign without warning. If you manage a brand account from your own login, sign in with the brand account when connecting.
How to connect X
- Open Channels, press Connect channel and choose X.
- Sign in on X’s screen as the account you want to add, and authorize the app to post and read.
- Back in Multi Post Social, confirm the handle shown is the right one. Repeat for other accounts.
- Set the time zone and a posting schedule; X rewards more frequent posting than most networks, so three slots a day is a fair start.

Threads and posting order
In the composer, press Add to thread to write the next part. Each part shows its own character count. At the scheduled time the first post goes out, then each following part is posted as a reply to the previous one, a few seconds apart, so the thread reads top to bottom. If one part fails, the thread stops there and the post shows Failed with the part number; press Retry and it continues from that part. The scheduler guide describes retry behavior for every network.
Best practices when you schedule X posts
- One idea per post; threads for anything longer than two sentences.
- Use one hashtag or none; X ranks conversation above tags.
- Lead a thread with a clear promise of what the reader gets by the end.
- Add alt text; it is shown to screen readers and indexed by search.
- Mix scheduled posts with live replies; the inbox shows mentions as they arrive.
- Shorten LinkedIn posts for X with the AI assistant instead of cutting by hand.
Connection errors and fixes
| Message | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly allowance reached | API tier cap for the account | Wait for the reset date shown on the channel page or lower the cadence |
| Duplicate content | Same text posted recently | Change at least a few words |
| Token revoked | App removed from the account’s connected apps | Press Reconnect and authorize again |
| Media too large | Over 5 MB per image or 512 MB per video | Compress and retry |
| Thread stopped at part N | One part failed | Fix that part and press Retry; earlier parts stay live |
Mobile tips
Write threads on desktop where every part is visible, and use the phone for quick single posts and replies. The Multi Post Social app shows the remaining monthly allowance on the channel card, which is useful before a live event.
X rules to keep in mind
X limits identical posts across accounts, blocks automated engagement and caps how many posts a tool can send per month depending on the API tier. Disclose paid partnerships in the text. X’s Help Center has the current automation rules.
